A new installation requires that certain attributes be provisioned on the Spire server. These steps occur once, when installing a server for the first time.

Create a Spire Administrator Account and provision a security certificate. This user is required to create and manage Spire user accounts, and it used to access Spire Server Administration. Other Admin users can be created at a later time. There must be at least one admin user.

The next step will ask you to create a Spire administrator account. This user has full access to all companies and settings. Other administrators can be added later. If upgrading from a previous version, or importing from another system, an existing user can be used.

You will then be asked to retrieve your existing license or create a new one.

Next you sign into an active Spire Central license by entering your email address and password and click ‘Log In’ at the bottom. If you do not yet have a Spire Central license, instead you may create a trial license from the ‘Sign Up’ section. If you have a Gmail account or your company email is hosted on Google, then you can use ‘Sign in with Google’ to access Spire Central, which would include all Google-related authorization such as 2-factor authentication. Note that this is the email address associated with the Spire license holder.

If you chose to sign into Spire Central using an email address, an email will then be sent for the purpose of verifying your account. After verification, you can then use the ‘login’ link freom the web browser to sign back into Spire Central.

On a new installation or trial installation, fill in the company details for the Spire Central account and save.

After Spire Central access has been verified, you now need to identify the host name associated with your license and company access. When you are starting to use Spire, you won’t yet have any host names created and you should choose the New Hostname selection.

This host name then needs to be issued a security certificate, and that certificate is used for encrypting network traffic. If in the future you log on to a server, and do not use the host name allocated, traffic no longer uses https:// but rather http://. You will receive a warning to this effect at each logon. We highly recommend you use the host-name allocated. It ensures secure communications with your Spire server. The creation of the certification can take up to several minutes.

You will then be be asked to log into the Spire Administrator account. Enter the Spire admin user ID and password created earlier.
