Snapshots are copies of your company data, stored in a compressed file. Whether they are created manually or via an automatic schedule, the files are saved on the server in the C:\ProgramData\Spire\Snapshots directory.

Refresh – Refreshes the list, perhaps after a new snapshot has been created.

Delete Selected – When one or more snapshots are selected, you can permanently remove them from this list and the ProgramData directory.

Restore Snapshot – When only one snapshot is selected, you can extract the zipped archive that may include documents and reports. The Database Name must be unique and cannot contain any spaces or special characters. If you are intending to replace an existing company database, you cannot restore using the same database name – you would either have to use a different name or first delete the existing company. You may also set the Snapshot Schedule now, or you can edit this setting later.

Search – Clicking this button will reveal a search text area, where entering a value of at least two characters will display only those snapshots that have this value in the Database or Filename columns.

  • Database – The unique database name ID.
  • File Name – The full file name of the snapshot, which gets created with the database ID and the date and time, to ensure uniqueness and not collide with another snapshot name.
  • Created – Date and time snapshot was created. This is a useful column to sort by, to more easily see when the last snapshot was made.
  • Size – File size on the drive

Note that the Filename is a hot link. Clicking the link will automatically download the selected snapshot to your local computer Downloads. Use caution when handling backups (snapshots) as this file contains your company information in full. Make sure that backups are removed from your local Downloads folder after they have been retrieved.

In addition to company data snapshots, the Server Admin automatically makes a daily backup of the user information, saved with ‘spire’ as the database name. The most recent five files are maintained, and older files are automatically purged.
